Within every woman there is a wild and natural creature, a powerful force,
filled with good instincts, passionate creativity, and ageless knowing.

Hello and Welcome to Wild Soul!

I'm Laura Hegle.

I'm an author and editor, fiber artist, and drum and rattle maker. I have a passion for manifesting joy, and I find inspiration for my creations through travel, nature, and my relationship with the divine feminine. I love to create custom drums and rattles, and I offer drum- and rattle-making workshops in the Mt Shasta area for those who want to craft their own.

Many days you can find me writing, tending my garden, crafting a drum or rattle, needle-felting, or sewing a quilt on my 1936 Featherweight Singer sewing machine. When I'm not out exploring the world, I make my home in a sweet little cottage in the Cascade Mountains of Northern California.

If you're so inclined, check out my gallery and my budding blogThanks for stopping by!

Workshops

Would you like to craft your own custom drum or rattle? I offer fun and meaningful workshops to expertly guide you as you manifest a beautiful drum or rattle.

All workshops are held in a quiet, peaceful, and private location near Mt. Shasta, California. This allows you to create your drum or rattle in the vortex energy of the sacred mountain.

During the workshop, I will guide you in a focused meditation to honor the directions, elements, animals, minerals, and plants that have given themselves and their energy to create your drum or rattle.

Workshops are available for individuals and small groups. Bespoke workshops for retreat groups visiting the Mt. Shasta area can also be arranged.

Drums

The drum-making workshop is a one day session that lasts approximately 7 hours, including a break for a bring-your-own lunch. Water and tea are provided. The cost of the workshop is based on the size of the drum,  the hide you choose, and whether it's a one-on-one or small group session.

Workshop Cost*

14″ or 16″ drum starts at $280

18″ drum starts at $300

All supplies are included. There is an upcharge of $40 for a one-on-one individual session. Needle-felted drum beaters are available for $25.

Hide Choice

There are several hide options for your drum: Natural or Dyed Elk,  Natural Deer, Natural Horse, and Natural Buffalo. There is a $20 upcharge for a dyed elk hide, which must be arranged in advance of the workshop to allow for prep time.

Rattles

The rattle-making workshop is a five hour small group session that takes place over two days.

Day One (AM Session)

The rattle is created and filled with sand, then hung up to dry overnight.

Day Two (PM Session)

The rattle will be emptied of sand and filled with its rattling content, and finishing touches added.

Because of the drying process, the Day One session must be held in the AM and the Day Two session must be held in the afternoon.

All materials for the contents of the rattle are provided. If you have pebbles or small crystal chips that are significant to you, please bring them with you to place inside your rattle.

Workshop Cost*

$125
